Living in UAE (accommodation is paid by my hubby's co.) I work full time (annual holiday, tickets, insurance ) - not teaching, and part time (heavy pocket money) - teaching. Actually my full time earnings I put in a bank as well... The question is: putting away monthly a sum of money around $3000, is it worth going for DELTA and MA TESOL? Or shall I go on with the same routine? I would like to have some more free time though...
I wonder if it's possible to find a proper job after DELTA or MA, which would give me something like 6 hrs/day work + the package and at least the same $3000?
We plan to stay in UAE for the next 5-10 yrs. I have CELTA + BEd (TESOL) + some 15 yrs experience. Ah! And I am NOT a native speaker |

What do you mean by I am not a native speaker? Where are you from? There are "tons" of non-native speakers (Bulgaria/ Sudan/ Tunisia Myammar/ Syria/ Yemen/ Morocco/ and more) working for Qatar University making really good money, so get your Master's degree and join uncle B.K and the 90 followers.
Come on! You can do it! Be confident.

I am pretty sure that they will offer you a job! |

I wouldn't count on it. The expectation is generally 35 - 40 hours / week "in the building" , regardless of how many classroom hours you actually teach. You can control the time / income trade-off while free-lancing. As long as you don't need the benefits (housing, vias, etc.), you'll do better as you are. |

Thanks for the link, letitslidedude. Well, will do DELTA first and then we will see how it goes. To tell the truth, it took me good three months to find TEFL job here being a non native speaker, sometimes the first and the last question was " Are you a native speaker?". Only in one place they asked me about my qualifications - this is the place where I happily work now.
OK, I guess DELTA/MA will do me no harm
As for my nationality - I am Russian. |

Bindair Dundat, 40 hrs a week = 8 hrs a day (including lessons preparation time) will do. I work the same hrs now - but mainly not teaching. I want to teach- that's what I enjoy doing and that's what I was doing for years. DELTA/MA, I guess, it's just more for proving "right, I am not a native speaker, but I am good enough!". Maybe it sounds stupid, but it's true.... Apparently (native / non native w/o MA) it's a big issue here. |

Just keep applying and show them that you can do the job. Once you have a record, there you go@ |
