Hello again,
One more question, please.
I have only a Bachelor degree in teaching French and English, is that enough to teach in China? I have some job offers from China, but I am a bit not confident that I can work there without TEFL/TESOL certificate. Does anyone had an experience working in China without certificate just having a Bachelor degree?

| Tatyana, Chinese employers prefer their employees to be native English speakers, or at least of a similar level. After that, a degree [again, usually from a university in an English speaking country] will see you eligible for most ELT jobs. |

| I know plenty of Russians working in China without a degree, tefl, experience or English language ability. Of course schools prefer that you are a native English speaker but will also accept a beautiful Russian white skinned girl. |

| TEFl employers in Asia generally don't seem to care about the TEFL/CELTA certificate, they are much more bothered about the Degree side of things (and sometimes in China not even that) |

so without a degree, tefl training, work experience in china, and english language ability, what exactly are these russians teaching at these schools in china?
in most provinces (it seems) its illegal now to teach without a degree. the schools are creative in finding ways to employ non-degreed teachers however. for example, spouses of those FTs with degrees are often hired on to teach as well, however they have no foreign expert certificate and are not teaching legally. they're only there as accompanying family members.

Well... the Russians, Ukrainians, Romanians etc. that cannot speak much English teach them very basic English such as numbers, alphabet etc. Most of these non-native English speaker pretend they are from native English speaking countries. I remember the agency asking me if I knew any other teachers who were white skinned and beautiful, English language was a plus. The American guy who had Chinese parents (native English) was not wanted. |

ok, i get it. i had a kenyan colleague (working legally in this case) who had a private job on the side, posing as an american. but at least he spoke english. the sad part in the case you illustrate is that some chinese people are paying good money expecting to be taught something by these people. |
