Hey all! I'm trying to decide which ITTO course I'm going to sign up for. I'm currently a high school Spanish teacher in Arizona.

If I go in June, then I'm thinking I might find more job openings for the fall or maybe beat a summer rush of TEFLers ? But my current job finishes up at the end of May so I'll be rushing out of town as soon as school ends.

If I go in July, I'd have more time to relax and pack before I make this big move. Also I'd get to see my dad one more time before I go (he'll be out of town may/june). But I'm also afraid I'm just going to feel anxious to leave. That I'll get bored having that month of free time and just spend money that I should be saving for my trip.

Any thoughts? Smile

Do it in June and you still have a chance to get hired at a private elem., middle or high school before the school year starts. I would highly recommend doing it in June. Good luck!

June. That would give you a month and a half to find a job and give yourself a small vacation as well. July is cutting it too close to the hiring process.

Ok, so then here's the dilemma...

If I go in June, that literally gives me one week after the school year ends before the ITTO course starts. (I looked into the IH CELTA and their next course is Aug, no good.... any others????) But maybe I'll try to rush out of here... do the course, find a job, and come back home to tie up loose ends/move more stuff to where ever I find a job ?

The problem is... a week is too little time for me to pack up/leave and a month is too long... *SIGH* can I job hunt before I have the TEFL certificate ?

At least I live in Arizona... plane tickets are cheap to most parts of MX. Very Happy

I should add that I don't know how excited I am about the idea of teaching private middle/high school. This is my 2nd year of teaching spoiled public high school kids and dealing with discipline/lack of motivation is driving me a little crazy. It would be nice to teach adults... I hope this will be possible. I'm thinking one of the "Harmon Hall" type english schools may be for me... and maybe teaching private lessons on the side ? I do want to enjoy this experience and improve my Spanish.

A teacher at the HS I'm at taught at a private school is Saltillo... he said the parents could just walk in and interrupt class to "discuss" issues with him. And that the kids were spoiled jerks, for the most part.
