Hi Hi...

So, I'm going to Taiwan... just have to get tickets first.
I've been looking ... those that have gone to taiwan... did u buy one way ticket? i've been told that there's a HIGH chance that taiwan would not approve my visa if i don't have a return flight...

those that have gone to taiwan... did you buy round trip and just cancel/refund the return ticket or did you get a return itinerary?? and what is this "return itinerary" ? some of the travel agent i talk to don't know what i'm talking about.

just want to know how others are getting to taiwan...

hi
i got a one way ticket and return itinerary. a return itinerary is just the schedule that you would follow if you bought a ticket home. all you have to do is go to a travel agent and say you're interested in buying a ticket from Taiwan to wherever on whatever date and want to have a copy of the itinerary so you can consider it. it should look exactly like the itinerary your travel agent gives you if you do actually buy a ticket.

when you go to board the plane to taiwan the person at the airline counter will ask if you have a return ticket and you just give them the itinerary.. they'll copy it and give it back.. easy and you don't have to waste money on a return ticket that you won't use.

I am somewhat of a more cautious person. Depends how long you are planning to come here for. If it's just one year then buy yourself a flexible one year return ticket.

When I first came I was unsure of how things would turn out and had the attitude of, "I'll try my damndest to get work, and if unsuccessful I will take the return leg back home."

From my point of view it was nice having that insurance in the back pocket, although I doubt most people have had to take it.

Just buy a one way flight to Hong Kong or somewhere if you are worried about the visa application. You can always cancel it and get some of your money back once you have the visa in your passport. You run the risk of being asked at customs to show your return ticket though. However, I don't think that many people get asked.

How about a single ticket to Hong Kong or Bangkok with a 35 day (to ensure a 60 day visa) stopover in Taipei. It used to work for me.

I was able to get a 1way ticket...with a return itinerary---whoo.. made the whole visa thing simpler... ^__^

now i know wat it's suppose to be

one more thing.. though it probably goes without saying. don't ever tell them (the visa people, the airline workers at check in, customs) that it's just an itinerary. they assume you actually have a ticket for the flight so don't tell them otherwise Razz

ghost tickets are now illegal for travel agents, but they still offer itineraries for free. i had my run this weekend and they barely even looked at the thing. dont take chances, though, make sure you have one.

mizzo, thanks for the tip ... i definately didn't tell them it was just an itinerary. Laughing

though i had to pay for my blank return itinerary... least it's all set.
