Hi,
I'm looking for some general opinions on whether you think it's possible to save money teaching in CR.
Obviously this depends on several factors, mainly how much you spend on partying, travel, eating out etc. I found it possible to save working in Mexico, earning about $800 US and paying $150 rent. But how does Costa Rica compare in terms of cost of living?
I realize a lot of ESL teachers arrive in Latin America with savings from back home, but having just spent 2 years in Mexico, I'd really be living and saving from what I earn. Good idea?
Thanks |

You can work and save in Costa Rica. Many teachers work here in order to save money to continue their travels. However, I would have to say that I don't think you will be able to save as well as you did in Mexico. Inflation is a big problem here. Also, you may have to pay rent in U.S. dollars. Teachers who do save usually do so by working as much as they possibly can (40 hours per week, in some cases!). |
