Jeff,
You were at a school where they paid you the airfare in advance (Y18,180 to be exact). You had a disagreement with them over an incident that most people would have overcome. But not you. You stubbornly dug in your heels and wouldn't compromise. You then ran away without returning the money. Result: School less Y18,180 and a foreign teacher.
You have worked 2 months for your company and have been having hassles with pay, hours, overtime, tax. Result: Jeff less about Y4000, working an extra few hours and a few headaches to go with it.
Well, Jeff, I really think you don't have a case to answer for. You want us to side with you, and say to he ll with "them"? Sorry, mate. I have no sympathy for you. You stole money in the past, yet you stated that the money was not important to you (so why didn't you give it back?). Why has money suddenly become more important again?
Maybe you should take Bearcanada's advice. |

Sinko great post!
Jeff I don't think anyone takes pleasure in suggesting that perhaps the situation you are in is at least partly of your own doing - but if you could step back and see things from a different angle then perhaps you would find another approach that would not lead to the conflict that you have had in the last two positions you have had in China.
You may have been unlucky, but it seems clear to me that I am not the only one that feels that the airfare fiasco has really called into question your integrity.
My advice with your current post - fight for what you know you were promised and try to work out the rest in a civil manner even if you don't get everything that you believe you are entitled to. Perhaps the school's view of what you are entitled to varies from your own. |

Well Jeff fits right in then as he betrayed the trust that the first school gave him by paying that airfare upfront. I am sure that future teachers at that school will all be very pleased to now have to wait for their reimbursements like everyone else! |

Let's see, i worked for 4 companies including the current.
First- tried to rip me off for 2000 rmb at the end of the contract and "admitted" they made a mistake then gave me some crap that the books were closed for the current semester and could not pay me the money till the next semester - even though I was leaving the school.
Second- yep, pissed me off because they treated me in a manner I did not see fit and after trying to work it out I left. I don't take kindly to being yelled out by any employer - especially a chinese one, so i split. Still no regrets about that action. I would have split money or not.
Third- ripped me off money and lied to me about the the Z visa.
Current- ripped me off for overtime and base salary 2 months in a row. promised me it wouldn't happen again... I got no faith in them, yep.
So, how am I the bad guy here?
I'm not, as explained to me by so many chinese, it's just the way they business, I shouldn't take it personal.
Well, i do take it personal... |
