Has anyone or does anyone know of any established teachers making 30,000 - 40,000CZK per month teaching in Prague, even if working 2/3 part-time teachingf gigs? |

That's more like what a trainer would make. but there are some jobs that will pay around that much. Military and private schools come to mind, but they are not too common |

Hi Elliot_Spencer.
40,000,-CZK per month will only be possible if you are teaching privately, and teaching all your private lessons for a given month (private students do have a tendancy to cancel last minute and this means you don't get paid for the lesson).
I know of at least 1 teacher who 'advertises' privately (sticking ads on tram stops, etc. - we don't encourage this as it is illegal, but it does seem to work well), and he charges around 1,000,-CZK per 45 minute lesson when he has a full group of students.
I think 30,000,-CZK per month though will be your ceiling if working for a language school and this will represent a significant amount of hours taught. The going rate for language school work is currently approx 200,-CZK - 250,-CZK per 45 minutes.
If you choose to teach 35+ hours per week then it is do-able.
BUT, you might go a little mad from teaching so many hours
We recommend a teaching week of around 25 teaching hours and this will provide you with easily enough to live on.
Plus... it IS possible to save a bit here but this depends largely on what you end up paying for accommodation.
Sound advice is perhaps to teach in Prague and enjoy Prague and then head off to another location where you can earn much more money for the same amount of hours taught and where your expenses won't be too demanding on your budget (S.Korea for example).
I have taught full time in Prague and know it is possible, from personal experience, to earn a very good local salary if you put in the hours BUT you will soon become exhausted and I would only recommend teaching 30+ hours per week for short periods as insanely busy schedules can be VERY demanding.
Hope it helps! |
