Indeed, VS, this one's got a long way to go to match your average of nearly 3 posts per day...

| There's certainly more to life than teaching English in the Land of Not Quite Right. At the extreme risk of appearing smug...my interests, personally, are somewhat eclectic. |

Just to update those who have been following my epic saga....................
I've accepted an offer from HCT (Al-Ain)..................started the process in October.
Patience is the answer I suppose. |

Not much longer than the average, I suspect. This is the time of year that they make those final choices for the next academic year.
Congrats and hope it all works out.

| With one year of college teaching experience and an MA in TESOL, how much could I expect for a starting salary at a place like HCT? |

| Not a lot or the minimum as you don't offer a lot by your description of One MA and one year in tertiary. Do you have a teaching qualification? |

Plus... with your limited credentials, it probably mean that you would be assigned to their less desirable locations if they even considered you.

What are the less desirable locations?
Yes I have a high school certification with three years of teaching high school English, but post MA work I only have one year of college teaching.
I didn't mention this before because I didn't think that a high school qual would count. I thought it was only post MA teaching that mattered.
Appreciate your advice. |

It depends on the employer. Experience after the MA often doesn't affect your salary at those places that have an open scale based on Degree + experience. But, if you have experience teaching academic English (reading or essay writing) at high school, it is relevant experience that may help to get you in the door.
If you do a search for HCT, you will much discussion of the pros and cons of different branches in the different cities. You may also want to visit the HCT website. It is a matter of taste which places you might like or not, but you have little or no input. HCT puts teachers where they need them.

| For me, it is less the location and more the management and expectations and personal goals. If you get a decent person in charge then the location is less important. There are many HCT colleges that are in better locations but the management stinks. Abu Dhabi seems to have a better managerial reputation than many places in Dubai and especially Sharjah. So I have heard from my friends who work/left HCT |
