|
I have been living and teaching in Thailand for the past 2 years and am now anxious to leave and relocate to Ecuador. Quito looks promising but Cuenca seems to be more my style. I taught in the US for 3 years before Thailand at a great language school in LA. I have a teacher's certificate as well as a CELTA in addition to the 5 years experience. I've taught every ESL subject as well as TOEFL, SAT, TOEIC, IELTS, and GMAT.
Questions: Is there anybody out there who can direct me to some reputable schools/employers in Cuenca?
Am I wasting my time if I go in late August/early September?
Anyone want to offer me a job? )
Any and all help is appreciated. |

I've sent you a PM as well, but just to have a brief comment here:
The world of EFL in Cuenca is small, but fairly easy to find work in, as they have a hard time attracting native teachers of English.
Wages are a bit lower than Quito or Guayaquil, but so are costs.
And it's a lovely city- perhaps not overly exciting, in terms of city "go go go" life, but really pretty, friendly, and, relative to Latin America, extremely safe.
Best,

Anybody have any idea how much rent is in Cuenca for a 2-3 bedroom apartment?
Thanks |

Shoot for $200 or less on a Cuenca teacher's salary. (And share it with another teacher.)
Much higher is possible, especially in posh parts of town...but if you look around, $150 to $250 can be done.
(This is based on hearsay. I have never lived in Cuenca, but know people who do...)

It was a long long time ago, but I worked at CEDEI, they have a website, I believe it's www.cedei.org, if that doesn't work just google CEDEI Cuenca. It was a good place to work and as far as I can tell it has grown since then ( I was there in 1995 ).
I won't comment on rents as I was there well before dollarization and it was dirt cheap at the time.
A beautiful city, I seriously considered going back but got stuck in Mexico instead. |
