Im planning on moving to Mazatlan Sinaloa by the end of the summer. I have spent many hours reading the various experiences found within the anals of the forums here. I have been seroiusly considering teaching ESL while ill be living in Sinaloa. I have a BA in Communications, and i have a small amount of teaching experience volunteering in some of the smaller private schools surrounding Mazatlan. I currently am living in Corpus Christi TX, and the closest area for CELTA certification is in HOUSTON, which is only about 4hours from here, the only thing is my budget wont allow me to live in Houston the 4weeks to obtain the CELTA. My other option is to take an Oxford Seminar, located in austin, i have a place to stay there and right now seems much more a viable option. I wanted to know more about the OS reputation, so please let me know what yall think, and any other advice to my potential carrer is apreciated.
Thanks! |

Tell me that's a typo and not a genuine error.
Would your budget allow you to take the course in Mexico? I think a lot of people on this site will recommend taking the course in the place you want to work. |

I'm with Jetgirly here. Taking the course in the country where you intend to teach is a good way to learn from the experience of teachers on the ground there.
Most of them will have already worked at numerous schools and can let you know the shady from the exceptional; who pays well and who doesn't pay at all. Best areas to live in - how and where to find private students and on and on. Stuff you ordinarily won't get in a school in the States.
There will be, no doubt, a few experienced teachers and teacher trainers there - yes - but not with the in depth knowledge you will get on the scene. |

thanks for the responses, i think the closest area for gaining certification would be guadalajara, it might even be cheaper to go there too. i just need to get settled in first then i could make contacts with local teachers , thanks for the post tedkarma |
