I have read that even in an interview in Japanese she doesn't speak in the nasal girly voice she does on TV- she calls that her "Ayu" voice. It's all marketing and packaging.
I agree with Nawlinsgirl- Dreams Come True is much better, as J-pop goes. She can really sing, seems quite natural, and is still around after quita a few years- they were popular when I first got here 11 years ago, and I still see them on TV.
I have a soft spot for Southern All Stars, although you don't hear much of them these days- they may have retired since they are getting a bit old... |

That's why I voted no. I remember reading a quote in which she admitted that she was a commercial product. Hardly the mark of an artist. |

No way. Ayumi is way better than any American pop star. J-pop is better than A-pop, why? Beacause J-pop songs acutually have emotion and passion and a message whereas A-pop singers are too concerned with singing about their Guchi, Prada, and shaking their booties for all to see.
Here is an Ayumi music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xwx8u36D18w |
errm... you are saying that Japanese aren't into bling? Hmmm, are you in Japan? |

OP are you from a small American town in the mid west? Do you think Full House is good comedy? And are you a Christian by any chance? That video was insipid. "It said nothing to me about my life" as a certain British singer once sang.
The quicker you leave kansas the better. |

No, I live in New England. What does being a Chirstian have to do with anything?
I don't understand Japanese so I like that song for it's sound qualities. |

The only good idol singer in my opinion is amuro namie. I've seen a few of her live performances on tv and she's actually really good, sings on key, hits the notes, and has some passion (without lip synching even, unlike hamasaki ayu and the rest do, that is when they're not sucking it up live)
The best female j-pop artist overall that I've heard is Shina Ringo. Actually writes the music herself, plays guitar, and sings. She's cool. |

Her left eye looks squintier than her right one. I thought I would mention that.
Honestly, not my thing. I find the vocals aren't bad, but the musical score is exceptionally, to put it nicely, "standard."
I can't understand the words, so I can't really comment on the most important aspect of the song. Considering the lack of originality and complexity in the melody, though, I could guess I wouldn't be amazed.
It sounded sort of like muzak with vocals at some points. Then there was an electric guitar at some point, and then it ended. The vocals sounded too high pitched to go with the melody and a little too harsh at times.
imo, if this is fairly standard for J-Pop, then it rates far below other international pop music for me. Definitely no Indian pop
But, if it's your thing, enjoy. |
