| If you're going to live anywhere; Ibaraki is the way to go! I am biased though as I have lived here for 3 years. If you like the country, fresh air, quiet nights and all the natto you can eat. Come to work here! |

What's the good place to live in Tokyo without considering alternative lifestyle?
I see here people talk a lot on alternative lifestyle, live music, underground music scene and all that artist, etc. stuff....where is a good place to live a standard mainstream life? Of course, for a guy in his late 20s - so not some dead & boring place but lively and vibrant to go out and meet people? In Tokyo... |

Kumamoto City. (KYUSHU)
Population hovering under a million - a laid-back expat scene which blends in with the local folk, clear water to drink from the tap (proud of their underground supply), onsens and the rebuilt castle if you need some history. A handfull of friendly expat bars and izakayas. All within stumbling distance.
Then drive for 45 minutes and you hit upon Mt. Aso, with its smouldering volcanic crater. The five bridges of Amakusa going in the opposite direction are good for fishing.
Pretty decent place all round ... and ideal if one likes to nosh on raw horse flesh. (basashi) |

| Chugoku region has some cool places, - Okayama, Kurashiku etc. Okayama is a pretty good location, near to Osaka / Hirohima for big city fix and also nearish Tottori for beach and mountains for skiing/boarding .. |
