University students asking a teacher to "play games" - a bit lazy, these bums, aren't they?
I would oblige provided they would cooperate in order to derive maximum benefits from class. How about some competitive contest in which participants - possibly teams of two or three - have to do an orienteering race across the campus, picking their way from one post to another and answering questions as they go along?
You could stage a "History course" or a "Geography test". Or you could have them spend a predetermined amount of money - say RMB 10'000 - on household goods they have to select at different locations (representing different departments of a department store)? |

Just recently I had a class on the theme of "jobs". For the final activity, job hunters had to gather just outside the door before being admitted to the "Job Fair" within the class. For the few seconds the group was alone in the hallway, two male students managed to start smoking before I exited the class to explain the rules of choosing a job from the job board.
Though I like Step's idea, I can only imagine the havoc that would be unleashed were I too allow a whole period of unsupervised activity outside the classroom for my second year charges: boys poking other boys' asses, smoking while dawdling somewhere, and play fights which sometimes get personal would certainly distract them from the task at hand. |

But whatever you do, don't call them games! Call them fun learning activities, whatever, but never let the "games" word pass your lips because inevitably somone, at some stage, will say, 'We ALWAYS play GAMES in his/her class! He's not a real teacher!'
"Games", or the mention of the word will always come back to bite you on the bum in China! |

| What's wrong with Uni level students playing games? Even when I did my CELTA course, we were expected to include games etc as part of the Teaching Practice lessons, which included learners as old as 70 or so! |
