Here`s a good question for everyone
I bought a cell phone in Merida Yucatan and moved to Mexico city. I have been giving the number out to potential employers and no one has discovered how to call me. Has anyone out there encountered this problem and if so what numbers do they need to dial before my cell number in order to reach me?
Don`t tell me to go to a Telcel dealer. Did that and he gave me a number and Slim`s information center had no idea either. |

I might be crazy, but why don't you buy a new chip for your phone in DF, giving you a local number that maybe people would want to call? Isn't having a Merida-based phone in DF crazy expensive (I mean, more than the usual cell phone crazy expensiveness) and using nine kinds of roaming? I think if you're going to be living there it might be worth it in the long run. |

Had no idea I could do that. So, I guess all I have to do is go to a telcel authorized dealer and pay them to put a new chip in. I get to keep the phone, no switchover, and I suppose the new chip comes with a new phone number, am I correct? I aint so savvy about Slims mighty ways, thanks. And I thought I would have to lay out another 1000 pesos for new service. |

There was a change this past year in dialing cell phones long distance. You must dial 045 instead of 044 if the cell phone is from a different area code from the phone you are calling from. And the caller pays the charges rather than the receiver. But you still have roaming charges.
Now that you are in el DF, you could get a different company rather than Telcel that might have a better deal. |

You can go into any Telcel store and buy a chip. I think they have a deal on right now where you can buy a chip for $150 and you get $300 worth of air time over 6 months ($50 a month). But you will still need to add air time every 2 months. If you take MELEE's advice and shop around, just be careful because the phone that you have might be locked to TELCEL, at which point, your options are to buy a new phone or try to get it unlocked. The latter shouldn't be a problem in DF, but I am not 100% sure...
