Making about 30000CZK a month, how much would I be left with after taxes and health insurance?

Wow, 30,000 Kc a month? Sounds like you're working your tail off!

Anyhoo, assuming you're taking six weeks (a month and a half) off per year, that means you're pulling down a yearly pay of 315,000 Kc. If you're self-employed, you can write off a flat 50% of your gross income as expenses. That would put you in the 15% income tax bracket. Your social taxes would be determined by how much you average in a month, so it sounds like you would be paying 2,000 Kc or so of those.

Watch out - to be officially self-employed in the Czech Rep requires a zivnotensky list. You will definitely know whether you have this or not, because getting one requires a pretty lengthy and expensive legal process.

If some school's passing you off as self-employed, having arranged a zivno for you (likely at YOUR expense) you could be in big trouble! There's been a bit of a problem in recent times with unscrupulous schools claiming that some of their income was actually earned by staff who were self-employed officially, but didn't have the language skills to realize that they could be liable for taxes on the new car bought by the school owner or other such items.

Heads up, if you're a newbie in the Czech Rep and/or have little Czech - don't agree easily to any contract that requires you to get a zivnotensky list. It can be a perfectly legitimate process - but if you're not entirely aware of what's going on behind the scenes, it can also put you into a very compromising situation.
