I am assuming that you have read the three threads on Sohar just below this one. A search is always the best start to narrow down your questions.

ELS has a patchy reputation in Oman.

ELS is fine - I have worked for them in Muscat and Sohar on a part-time basis many times. Average to good students, attitude-wise - easy program to pick-up and teach, they pay on time and are friendly to deal with - what more can you ask ??

Hi TESOL PRO,

Can't comment on ESL, as I haven't worked for that chain. However, I can state that Sohar is a quiet town in a pleasant setting. It has a great beach and there's striking mountain scenery closeby.

This area is developing quite rapidly mainly due to the Sohar Port Development Scheme Project. And there are rumours of a multiplex cinema; of Crown Plaza and Radisson hotels; and an airport arriving in this district in the next few years.

As an English teacher currently working in Sohar I can recommend these two websites:

http://www.geocities.com/soharsg/ - check out its newsletters for information on the expats' social scene here; and www.soharmusicfestival.com for info on the Sohar Music Festival.

However bad ELS Sohar might be, Sohar College of Higher Education will be far worse, believe me. Never, ever consider working for them!!
