I don't think so.
A drunken FAO who had been lying to everybody is probably not the best exemplar.
Now, contrast that with a school that has a good relationship with the PSB, has a record of diligent and timely submission of documents, and has a receipt to show the documents were turned in early enough for ample time to process.
The PSB will take the hit on that one. |
Best examplar? What kind of English is that?
And frankly, best examplar or not, it happened and you can like or not like it because it didn't happen to you.
And yes, the papers must be submitted sufficiently in advance of the deadline to cover the deadline. That is from the PSB in Harbin, not me. And from the People's Court judicial office that gave us our "hearing". |

That would be standard English, something you are presumably paid to know.
You are generalizing from your own experience. Because your school was culpable in this matter, (if your account was accurate)I am not surprised at all of the hearing outcome.
Why would you trouble to interject whether I liked something or not regarding the matter? Did you feel threatened and need to make a straightforward matter personal? Did you feel someone called you a liar?
Reread my post. I stated several predicate conditions regarding the outcome of the hypothetical I posted.
A gentleman, in your shoes, would be apologizing about now. |

Back to topic guys : who cares about a stupid word anyway? even though we teach English, we don't have to be immature word-nazis. I'm not the moderator, but come on...
You are all totally right that I have been way too naive and should've done some homework regarding visa's before I got here, but this is the situation I'm in now and I can't really do much about it - except to try and avoid making the same mistake in the future.
The school have had several FT's in the past, I have even talked to a couple of them a while ago. They didn't reported anything about problems with Visa's/P.R or the PSB.
Reportedly I will get my passport and some kind of visa/r.p. back later this week... I will report back to let you know which type of visa it is... |

Joachim, you have my sympathy. I have my own war stories, though not quite as sensational as HFG's. My first 2 years in China I had excellent reason to believe that a drunken, dishonest and incompetent lout was the exemplar for FAOs. Others have had better experiences, and so have I since, but for a time I was just unlucky I guess.
I could join the chorus of "You should have"s, but that doesn't help much at this point. I think you've already got your priorities set. First, get your passport back, whatever it takes. Then you'll know and what your status is and what you have to do. That might be to cut bait and leave the country (and pay the fine, so long sucker), and if so then so be it. I've done the same and come back to find better schools, a little older and possibly a little wiser. As bad as things seem, you'll get out alive. |
