|
|
Hi, I'm about to change from a "Specialist in Humanities" work visa to an "Instructor visa".
Does the Instructor visa mean I can work at all the places I could under the Humanities visa, plus high schools/elementary schools, etc.?
Thanks |

| No. Instructor visa is more restrictive. |

really? wow.
So, with an Instructor visa, can I work at the usual conversation schools around the country ("Big 4" as well as others)? |

I am changing my Visa now. According to immigration, the school who sponsor you need to provide immigration and other companies written evidence that you are permitted to have other jobs. It was no problem with my school. |

No.
Instructor visa= Permits work for/in public schools only
Humanities Visa= Permits work in private schools, companies, and organizations
Since the majority of positions for teaching are through private entities, this makes the instructor visa more restrictive. |

This is not conditional for a specialist in humanities visa. |

| You can't work at those jobs since they are outside of the visa category BUT you can go in to the immigration office with the contracts for the non instructor jobs and get permission to perform work outside of your visa status. I did it all last year and although it was a big hassle to go to the immigration office each time they always approved it no problems, it is the same job after all. |

I`ve been through the same thing. Had to change from a specialist in Humanities to Instructor visa.
I wanted to do other jobs as well, so I talked to immigration, and they were able to give me permission.
Again, them giving me permission was no problem, just a hassle to go there.
