Hey everyone, I am interested in teaching English in BA and was wondering if you guys could give me some general info. I recently graduated for UC Davis with a BA in History. I am currently doing a long term subbing gig here in the states. I took a 40 hour TEFL. When's the best time to go to Argentina? How can you find a job? Do you need a TEFL? Can you live pretty well on the salaries down there? How many hours a week do you have to work at most schools? If anyone could get back to me with any info I would really really really appreciate it. Thanks guys!

Generally speaking, the best time to come down to begin teaching would be at the start of the school year - in other words, late February, early March.

To find a job, you can simply look up a phone book for English institutes and call them and see if they are looking for teachers. In addition, there are a variety of websites out there that contain the addresses of schools that you can apply at.

I don't have a TEFL certificate, but I was teaching for 2 years back in Chicago. Many schools asked about it, but no one seemed to care much.

It seems that you CAN'T live well off in ANY Latin American country unless you work a bit more (such as, if you work 30 or more hours).

It seems that most people work for more than 1 institute down here as each school only gives you about 10 - 12 hours. From what I understand, most people work about 25 hours (I, at least, don't want to work more than 25 hours per week).
