Good Day. This is for hockey fans. Specifically, Vancouver Canuck fans.
Tonight is huge game against the Dallas Stars and I am just wondering if there is a bar here in Guadalajara, Mexico that will show the game. I think there is a sports bar near Centro Magno, but I am not sure. Can anyone give any details????? |

You know, we have a 2-year running thread about hockey on the China off-topic forum.

Apparently, the only place to see NHL playoffs was on ESPN Latin America. They dropped it because of the lockout and it never came back. Unless someone knows of another network, I've been tuning in by radio online. The Senators play tonight too, ready to dispense with the Pens.
I caught a round three Game 7 in an Acapulco bar a few years ago. That was something different to be the only one there with a hockey jersey.
Oh, and apparently CBC is now streaming the games online, though I think you have to be in Canada to get it.

If you can figure out a hack around, it might work for you. |

Here I come crawling out to admit that I am also a die-hard Vancouver Canucks fan and am watching this one closely! We too have a plan for tonight.... Hey, a Canucks fan never gives up. We are lucky here because the bars catering to foreigners all have satellites so we have a few choices. The best choice is always the bar called "Canucks". What is really annoying is when some places put on an American sport popular at this time of year (baseball??) and it's not hockey, so we have to zoom to the next sportsbar in hopes of more hockey influence!
P.S. I think hockey talk would be as beneficial to this forum as some of the things posted lately! |

Some of the places here have Star Choice from Canada so that's a given for the Canadians...but the American bars get it too and it's on an American satellite feed. I could find out for you what they have on the roof. |

Dixie,
On Direct TV you can advance order certain things. I can't say for sure for hockey, but around here where we don't have any Canadians at the moment. The big thing was the NCAA Basketball tournament. Our local sports bar, run by Gabachos, ordered games for us from their direct TV, I think it cost them something to order the games, but they know that we eat and drink a lot when we come to their place. |

Thanks all...
Guess Ill have to go out scouting this weekend for bars that might have something that will get games. Listened to Ottawa win last night...surprised it worked out to be a shut out. Scary to think that Im cheering for them....but damn leafs were too eager to get the golf clubs back out it seems. Sad to see Cover lose it 1-0 in OT last night. Well..I didnt see it..but I heard it.
Mmmmm...I have such a craving to watch a game...the radio just doesnt do it! Scouting I shall go!
Thanks again all!

I found a sports bar in GDL that shows hockey. It is close to Minerva. Next to the Burger King. It is a betting house. Unfortunatly, they couldn't get CBC, however they do have TSN. Perhaps as the playoffs wind down you might be able to catch a game. Saw the hightlights though. That was cool. I can play hockey 07 on Playstation 2 |

I'm going to take this off on a tangent, rather than start a new thread devoted to professional sportsdom. So, this is the time of year when I change from my normal, nice, sedate self into a slight lunatic who is really, really excited to watch the NBA playoffs (and maybe pitch a few insults at some strangers who happen to be cheering for whoever is unlucky enough to be playing against the Pistons). This from a girl who went to art school. Anyways, I'm living in Oaxaca City right now, and something tells me that the antenna on the 14 inch tv in my apartment isn't going to be picking up the games. Does anyone have a hunch where I could try to go and watch a few? Thanks a grillion.

Go to any place gringos hang out and ask. You may even get an invitation to watch the games at someone's house.(I wouldn't 'fess up to being ill-behaved until after you get the invitation though!) hehehe |

Are you willing to travel 2 1/2 hours (the last hour solid hairpin curves!) to see a game?
The Sports Authority here in Huajuapan is probably the best sports bar south of Guadalajara.
BUT, Azteca 7 carries some NBA games, but usually not live. They show like 1 game a week. Unfortunately they voice it over, so you can hear the original English commentary in the background under the Spanish, which makes me seasick. |

Hmm. Maybe we'll talk in a month or so, Melee, when we're getting closer to the finals, and see where my desperation level is. I do love me some hairpins, though! I've got a lead on a bar in the centro that may have a satellite, but I need to do some scouting. Thanks for the tips, kids! |
