It's an English recruiter but they work with the Chinese government... but what a shock, I'm going over to China so who would have guessed that I would be working with the Chinese at some point! . |

Many contracts provide for at home internet access.
And if it is in the contract then they are obligated to provide it.
As they do for any other provision in said contract. |
Please make sure you don't take things out of context. When I refer to obligation in my quote above I am not referring to a contract. I am talking only about what we are given as required by law. Yes, internet is customarily given - but an employer has no legal requirement to give it to us. If it was put in the contract by the employer then yes an obligation now exists. Please keep things as they were meant to be in my previous statements.

And as I clearly recollect from the original poster and his thread starter ... you mention that you had acquired a "prominent volunteer position" in the gaming industry .... how exactly did that change into this being your job and you getting paid for it.
Keep in mind, that while I'm generally on your side and want the same things in life, this is China and you cannot bring your non-Chinese or Western ideas and expect everyone to follow YOUR rules. The school "has no right" to ask why you want internet access ? That's only in your mind. Thrusting your beliefs upon another society is ... well .... the "American way" I suppose.
Simply ask for high speed internet. If they won't provide it, pay for it. Generally, you can get, higher than U.S. cable internet speeds for 600 RMB a year if you pay all in advance.
This really is a non-issue. |

You are probably going to take some heat from people here for the 'volunteer position' unless it really is a humanitarian operation.
Some companies will advertise volunteer positions to get teachers to work for next to no income while the company actually profits from your placement.
If you are going to go the volunteer route then make sure that you are working for a legitimate humanitarian project. I would only go with organizations that are registered and recognized back home for their work in this regard.
The danger being that if you take the placement as a volunteer position through a company that profits from this you may compromise the positions of others in the future.
As to the internet aspect I think that you are on the right track. If they won't offer it then just pay for it yourself. But make sure to get it in writing that they will set it up within a week of your arrival here. |

I think you didn't read what I was talking about way back. Volunteer game position... back in the United States. Maybe I didn't put that very clear, my apologies . I never said anything about a volunteer position of any sort in China, sorry. |
