Sorry for saying that, as I like dogs.Where Beijing is actually going would be censored on here.Take a gander at this:
1. 4 year Bachelor's degree
2. Master's degree, TESL/TESOL Certificate preferred
3. Teaching experience preferred
4. Enthusiastic, friendly, positive, energetic, hard-working, patient, professional, and team oriented
AND add this:
1. Teaching hours: 3~5 hours a day, Monday through Friday
2. Salary: 80~100 RMB
3. Position shall be re-evaluated to a full-time teacher upon successful appraisal.
I was making 80 RMB per hour with taxi fare,so say 100 RMB-TWELVE YEARS ago. I hope the altruistic academic that has the qualifications paid little for that education, and make sure you have plenty of lithium to enhance your mood to meet this criteria. Shameful !
P.S. Here's another for 5,000 RMB per month....Wow! That's like Italian ELT wages. You certainly won't be feeling like a big shot, that's for sure. And I just read that they'll give 850 USD towards your air fare-F.U ! Salaries are flopping, as costs are sky rocketing-Perfect combo |

I was talking with a gal 6 years ago right after she got a job with Montessori here in Beijing, and she laid out the benefits: 26,000 RMB, free apartment (WESTERN style), full airfare, 6 weeks paid vacation, and I was envious.
Here's now what they are offering:
*Salary RMB 15000 gross p/m- Well, one part of this is honest. But get this- you don't need the specific certificate, but their pull in is to offer the chance to get a Montessori Cert...AFTER working there. So, can I work as a lawyer for a couple of years and then get my LLB ? No? |

So, would they really be eating 3 RMB noodles ? Sounds to me (take in to account most people stay only 1-2 years) that those noodles are running at about 5-10 USD per bowl. |

I won't work for 150 yuan here in Changsha, the minimum is at least 200 if you know what you are doing. In PEK I am sure, with the right guangxi, 300 yuan would be a bare minimum. |

The trouble is that in Australia there are plenty of degree holders including masters and PHD unemployed trying to live on the dole or who are stuck earning $400 to $500 a week which only allows you to live like a dog in Australia.
To them conditions are good here. |

Nah, Beijing has turned 180 degrees from 1994 with the majority then being I-don't-need-the-cash but want one more life experience seniors;to now the 17-23 year olds leaning the putonghua and earning some beer and noodle money.
And with the Corporate/Business English-The real cats that have the bizzness savey and/or education....Ask yourself this question: Why would they be teaching it, and not doing it, in a sea of business ? |

Let's see James, which economy is booming the most? China I would say! The reason is that they have lots of unemployed and underemployed to keep wages and work conditions down.
Now you say that Australia's economy is booming, hah, hah!
If I was on $45 an hour for the same hours that I do here I would still be in front here. It's called cost of living.
Now you have an answer! |

My little family will be going back to America in about 2 - 3 years making the same that we do in China, actually giving up a little money since we will be paying people to most of the legwork that we do now. I am not returning to America to save money, I am returning for all those little things like clean air, blue skies, more than 2 stars in the sky, clean water, plus hundreds of others that make living there so nice no matter what the cost of living is. Of course we are making an average American salary this year in China and plan to double it for the next couple of years and then reach a nice lofty plateau. No matter how much more in front I am in China compared to America I will always like America better of course I can and am doing much better than 5,000 yuan a month. |

Of course, some of us came from other western cities like London, which had less blue sky than where I am now (dalian) and less outdoory stuff (although admittedly very good parks) |

Why do you continue to make nonsensical comparisons?
You live in China where all your living expenses are provided gratis and they pay you some discretionary 'play money' to amuse yourself with. If you were living in a Western country you would certainly be working considerably more hours unless of course you had alternative income support.
I am curious to know why you continually denigrate ,presumably the country of your birth. You obviously haven't lived there for some time and have lost touch with developments. The Australian economy IS booming and there are many highly paid jobs eg in the mining sector (60-90K AUD) AUD for those willing to retrain at even a semi-skilled level.
And of course the service industries are booming as well. And all this is in despite of the worst drought in history.
Also, what are you going to do when the onset of age makes your tenure here no longer viable? I am assuming from your previous posts that you are not young. Someone with the all answers re economics must have a really great Plan B up his sleeve.
Or are are you assuming (hoping) that Armagedon will solve your problems? |

Not to mention countries like Australia that have no water and are about to see food prices go mad. No joke either, I'm afraid! |
