After my thread of last week you guys were really helpful so I figured I'd ask another question (or two) of you re: visas etc.

I understand that the work permit is issued before the residency visa as it has to be provided when applying for the visa however, is the residency permit dependent on the work permit? By this I mean if we leave our positions with our current employer is the residency permit still valid within the time parameters stipulated?

I noticed that the residency visa application was for a multi-entry so if I was to leave Taiwan before my contract ended (i.e break the contract) could I return without employment (on the residency visa) and look for another job?

Finally re: ARC. This is probably going to draw some negative comments but please understand that at the moment I am just asking questions in the event that the current situation doesn't improve.

Is it possible to work in Taiwan without an ARC but with a residency visa and work permit?
Do any of these documents legally bind you to an employer?
Is it possible to seek and gain employment with another employer before a current contract is finished if your documentation is all issued with an employer's name?
What happens to permits, visas and ARC's in cases like that, are they revoked?

I apologize for all the questions but I'm just not familiar with the procedures here yet and need some clarification.

Once the work permit and residency visa are issued you have a pre-determined number of days (I don't remember how many) to apply for the ARC. Furthermore, your residency visa states right on it that it is only valid in conjunction with a valid ARC.

The work permit is employer specific. The ARC is specific to those employers listed on it.

Yes, it is possible. Once the secondary employer has obtained a work permit, toddle off to the FAP and have the employer's name added to your ARC.

Upon termination of employment (by either you or your employer), the employer is to notify the appropriate authority (CLA? FAP?). Once they have been notified, your ARC will be cancelled. The visa is firmly affixed in your passport, so it's not like they can take it back; however, as noted above, it is only valid in conjunction with a valid ARC. Your work permit is employer specific, so it's useless by this point. Same goes for your ARC unless your new employer's name has been added to it.
