good schools, bad schools...blah, blah, blah........
does anybody know of any diamonds in the rough as far as restaurants go. any type of restaurant in any location. don't bother mentioning chilis, tgifridays, etc.... i'm talkin' places that most wouldn't have heard of but should try in order to break the routines we all have as far as our lame eating habits go. and you all know its true because we all only frequent the places we are " used to" and rarely step outside our comfort zone.
so lets have it.
name of food place
location
whats on the menu that makes this place so good |

alright, i'll swallow my pride and reply to my own post.........but i'll do it by pretending to be someone else
hey beefer, great idea for a thread and i wish the others were as witty as you and as valuable as you to a forum like this.
(warning... if nobody else replies to my post then i will write crap like this all day long)
i try every year to get away to pangandaran atleast once and while there i always make a point of making repeated trips to the fish market for a honkin' seafood dinner that is the best i have ever had anywhere. those of you who have been to pangandaran should already know of the food there and those that haven't gone there should, as its a great place for some proper r and r. don't go to the fish market during the day to eat because it stinks............and because the restaurants aren't open yet, this ofcourse could be a problem when looking for something to eat. the best place there ( in the early evening) is the restaurant closest to the water on your right hand side ( if you are facing the ocean).... i recommend the sweet and sour bbq shrimp and spicey cumi goreng tepung... for comfort reasons i recommend leaving the belt at home (or in the hotel room, actually)...... and many cold bintangs for those explosive burps that really get the staff and locals laughing...remember, they are laughing with you, not at you
another place is that lebanese place on the street parellel to jaksa....those in jakarta should already know it...those who don't should check it out.
in closing, beefer i think you are a great guy and a true inspiration to many on this forum...i personally feel it an honor to reply to your post ... keep up the great work, kiddo
yours truely, beoufer
....i'll keep doing this stuff if nobody else replies |

any of you out there that are in or around the bogor area be sure to check out "panini's" if you haven't already......massive sandwiches and great steaks and pasta. if you get the vip card you get a 30% discount on all food and drinks for the next three months....the whole menu is great and they put tonnes of garlic in the mashed potatoes!!!!!....ain't nothin' wrong with that.
...this post kinda sounds like i work there..........i don't though... really, i don't |

good question sid....
sandwiches start around 20,000 ( and they are huge sandwiches.. i recommend the steak and cheese but they are all good in their own way)
steaks and ribs vary widely from local meats to imports, but a good sized import steak will be about 45,000 ( keep in mind that these dishes come with veggies and potato (mashed, fried, baked ....if you get the mashed they always give you way more...and i already mentioned all the garlic in them)
the pastas are 25- 30,000....and very good.....great cream sauce i might add
carlsberg--18,000 ( i think... i got really drunk last time i was there and forget how much i paid for them)
anker stout-- 23,000 ( can't say anything, i don't drink stouts)
....but the king of the menu is the chicken cordon bleu......35,000--- real big , real good...chicken packed full of cheese, meat and lots o' love ...add your mashed potatoes to that and your flying
...i've only been there a few times and this is all that i've ( and my family) eaten so far ....soon enough i'll have that menu finished |

Kafe Batavia is NOT cheap and the menu is limited but the Indian scrambled eggs and spicy lamb sausages is excellent. |

3 places I like are.. (dont know if you have been there)
is SATE TOMANG seafood resto that is on Jln Cipete Raya...
their food is always good... service good....
My family have been going there since 1990...
Another is BANDAR DJAKARTA at Ancol... its always busy....get there either just before 12 midday.... or early evening....
a good decent meal for two will cost less than 150 thousand.... cumi goreng tepung, ikan bakar.... kangkung...prawns done anyway you like...last week we tried TEMPURA PRAWNS...so yummoooooooooo
its actually a nice place...the water doesnt smell, and you look across to putri duyung cottages...
Oh there's another one in BOGOR ...called CAFE GUMATI... balinese style... really good SATAY.... go at night, its nice and cold, lovely view of the kampung lights.... I'd call it romantic as well. With a live band. You can sit outside in the open air or undercover.... |
