I am beginning to stare down the possibility of a second contract and I am asking myself a lot of questions about staying in Japan.
I just came back from a trip to Korea and I am seriously thinking that it offers a lot and might have been a better choice. But....
For me I came to Japan for a few reasons 1) I wanted to learn Japanese, mostly because I thought it would be cooler than Korean, 2) I thought the standard of living would be higher, 3) While I knew the money would be less than it used to be I thought it was still among the most in the world, 4) I believed that Japanese businesses and students would be more "solid" and a good place to cut my teet teaching English.
So far I am happy but I can't see myself staying beyond next year. I'm realizing I love learning languages but I wanna move somewhere where the language will be more useful than Japanese (i.e. Chinese or Spanish) Also, I was blown away at how exciting and energetic Korea and Korean people were, Japan has been pretty bland on many levels.
Things seems pretty much in slow decline here and I think I will never be proficient at reading Japanese so off I will go... |
