Ok, I am a 23 year old guy who just graduated last year with a BSc in Business/International Business. No real teaching experience. But I do love kids and I am absoluely in love with Japan and it's culture all while trying to learn the language (which I equally enjoy). I have been to many different places in Europe so culture shock is something that I can adapt to relatively easily. Given my bio, what are my chances of landing a 250K job in Japan and being able to enjoy my time in that beautiful country before I decide what I want to do for the rest of my life? Where should I begin looking - big 4 or independent private schools?
Thanks,
R.D. |

I'm sure any of the 'Big 4' would be interested in talking to you and they offer as good a starting point as any for those in your position, ie. recent graduate but with no teaching qualifications or experience.
Many young people in your position seem to enjoy working for Nova et al, if only temporarily and post positively on this board.
You should be able to make the money you mention without too much difficulty. Much less and you would struggle to survive especially in the dearer areas.
Do bear in mind that the long-haired, sandal-wearing hippy types are about as popular as a fa*t in a spacesuit here. Not that I'm suggesting that you are one of those. However, be prepared to wear a suit with collar and tie and to go to work looking as if your mum has got you ready to go to Sunday school. That is to say: conventional.
By the way, knocking off your more attractive students is nearly always a sacking offence if discovered. That doesn't seem to stop the mucky little custards round here though!
You've got nothing to lose, in my view, so go for it if you feel inclined.
Good luck.

nonsmoker, you've probably got as good as a chance as I did, and I was able to land a job. Don't limit your options, and apply for anything available (except Lingo in Shikoku and Girard in Hokkaido!). Once you've got an offer (or more), you can decide which is best for you. Good luck! |

Your chances are good, not fantastic, but there are no obstacles either.
Couple other things.
I wouldn't overestimate your ability to cope with culture shock based on a your experience with Europe.
Also while you are here I'd look at ways of adding to your InterBus degree with some real world experience. |

About as good/bad as anyone. You could fill a tome with people more qualified than you who have come to Japan looking for work and failed, and another tome of those with less who have been immensely successful.
The key cliche here, but not an innaccurate one, is that your results will vary. |
