Hey everyone, I am thinking about applying to the "Teaching Chile" job placement program. Does anyone know anything about the program or have any advice. I am a first time teacher going abroad, with a 40 hour TEFL, and some experience teaching high school level in the U.S. Here's the link to the program:

If anyone has any info I would really appreciate it!

Hi....my name is Menelik and Im doing a program similar to Teach in Chile wih CIEE. The programs are ok I guess. I am living in a house with alot of Teach in Chile teachers and we are basically in the same situation. Same pay and same positions. We get paid 300,000 chilean pesos with the possibilty to pick up an additional class. Some of the Teach in Chile people work in Duoc, as I do, which is a technical college and the others work in colegios or elementary-high schools as teachers assistants. The teachers that get placed in Duoc have the liberty to plan their own lessons with the books provided by the school where as teh teaching assistants at the colegios as I have heard just help out the teacher in the class, checking on the students and helping them out. They do not have to plan anything really, but I think they can if the talk to the teacher. Thats it basically. Both organizations help you process your visa to stay in the country and after you start teaching, you basically live as a chilean. The organizations of course are there if you need any help or if there is an emergency. The only downside is the pay I guess. Its just enough to get buy if you cook the majority of your meals. If you plan on traveling, bring your own pocket money. I like CIEE and feel Teach in Chile is exactly the same. If you have a TEFL certificate and would like to apply on your own, you probably could negotiate a better deal at another teaching institute and get paid more. Also there is always the possibilty of giving private lessons. Hope that helped.
