Does anyone know how factual it is, that KIMS/KITAS will not be issued to anyone over 55? Is it a fact or just more hot air from Kantor Imigrasi? Rolling Eyes

regardless of "reformasi" I dont think Indonesia wants foreigners there at all.

good idea if corruption and pseudo-dictatorship can endure.

60 is the upper age limit for a work visa, not sure there is a limit for the KITAS itself. However, as is the way with many of these things, I suspect a few crisp 100 dollar bills would change outcomes considerably.

For those who live there. Why do you like Jakarta more than other places? Many seem to hate it, so what are it's advantages?
If it is just one big shopping mall as others have said, well it must have something else going for it otherwise you would all be in Bogor, Bandung Surabaya et el.

I've now been told that EF will not employ persons over the age of retirement.

Also, Kantor Immigrasi will not issue an authorising telex if a teacher is over the age of 60.

You should be ok working in China: if I were 'above the retirement age' I think I'd choose to be in China rather than Indonesia. I definitely consider it as a better environment and healthier/safer place to be for someone of that age. Just my opinion, but based on that I'll no doubt follow my own advice when the time is right.

Sadly, I've just seen this rule take effect. An Aussie guy at my school turns 60 this year, and the gov't has refused to grant him a new work visa for the new school year. I asked our HRD about this and was told that they make exceptions if the foreigner is married to an Indonesian, but since he's single....

Poor guy; now, he's gotta go back to Oz with no job, home, or family, as he's been living here for so long. Gives us something to think about the longer we plan on staying here.

Would anyone like to post the 'law' that applies to this?

I have been 'reliably' informed that no such law exists!

However, it is possible that schools are using this excuse to get rid of people they no longer wish to employ. Or government officials are using this as a means of getting some sort of back-hander.

This rumour has been circulating for the past couple of years, but nobody has posted any 'real' facts to support or deny the rumour.

26-60 age limit is correct for a work visa as a native speaker English teacher. There is no age limit on a KITAS per se.

I know two people personally who are over 60 but still managed to get a work visa - but these guys are certificated school teachers AND the school paid generous 'homage' to the nice Imigrasi chief. It can be done but (in Jakarta and Tangerang districts, at any rate) it is expensive.

i know that for non teachers there is no upper age limit.

several of my dos friends have told me that for teachers the upper limit is 55. my school had to let go several teachers last year, citing the upper age limit as the reason.

who knows, maybe they just wanted to get rid of them. or maybe it is possible to pay extra "fees" and they just didnt want to.

I'm turning 58 next month and have just renewed my contract for another year at an international school. I have friends in Java who are 60 and just resigned at an international school for another year. So, if there is a rule about age, it is obviously as flexible as anything else in Indonesia.

I wasn't aware that there was a lower age limit of 26. I'm 20 years old and I've been looking forward to teaching in Indonesia later this year. Is this limit already in effect?

Also, I'm turning 21 in December.

I recognize that I might not officially get a KITAS until a few months after I arrive in Indonesia, but I'm wondering if I'll have to fly to out of the country every three months, repeatedly, throughout my whole 12-month stay.

Can anyone advise me or, possibly, put up a link to a reputable source that gives that age limit? I've read the requirements for a work visa on the embassy website before, and I haven't yet seen a lower limit specified. Clearly, there must be some minimum, so I'm not that skeptical that this limit of 26 is true, but I would like some certainty. Thank you.
