|
|
I'm in Busan South Korea now and I want to transition somewhere else for awhile. I really want to see China and begin to learn Chinese. I would like to work with adults and have a bit of free time to study.
I would prefer university experience if I could get it? How hard is it to get into a Shanghai university with a lowly BA and 1.5 years of ESL experience.
I read some of the threads on Kai En also, is it worth checking out?
Thanks for any advice. |

To judge from its frequent ads here, Kai En must have a pretty high turnover rate. You could search their name here. Perhaps you'll find other threads. Don't forget that Shanghai is one of the most expensive cities in China in which to live. |

Kai En has had a poor reputation previously, though I haven't heard much lately.
If housing and utilities are included, and salary is 6k plus, its probably OK for SH. There's lots of private work. Companies can pay nicely. There are plenty of other unis. All but a few will take people with your quals, but competition can be intense: every dissolute bludger in the developed world wants to be there!!
Yes, SH is expensive if you live the lifestyle. You don't need to. People who post that either haven't lived there, or have lived the expat scene lifestyle.[/b] |

I had an interview with Kai En, and will probably do a teaching demo after the holidays.
It seems from talking to the person in the interview that they care about getting higher quality teachers, and have some mechanism to help them improve. Also, they stay away from the internet techology and prefer having actual teachers in actual classrooms. Kai En is only in Shanghai. There are 4 branches. I am also wondering about this school. |

He also has abysmal Chinese. His podcasts in which he speaks Chinese with an Irish accent are some of the funnier ones.
