|
|
Hi,
Just wondering when the majority of job vacancies are in Japan? Do they tend to be all the year round or is there one particular period when there are more jobs availaable?
I want to go in September time - would I have a problem getting a job at this time of year?
Thanks!! |

Sez,
What kind of jobs? If you mean teaching, please specify what kind of teaching.
1. Universities hire for April start dates, and they may hire a month or a year in advance.
2. High schools, kindergartens, and elementary schools typically hire for April start dates, too, but they advertise a month or two in advance.
3. Eikaiwas hire just about anytime.
1 and 2 also have a minor spurt of hiring for October, so look in late August or September for these. The majority of their openings are as listed above.

That all depends on what your qualifications are, which jobs you are looking for, where you look, and whether you are in Japan or not. |

Glenski, thanks for the reply,
I've got a degree in English Lang and Lit and also I've got a TEFL.
I live in the UK but want to move to Japan and teach in whatever school really - somewhere that will take me on with no experience (only ever taught on the TEFL course).
I'll probably apply to the big companies like GEOS, Nova, AEON etc - I know these have bad reports but as I'm starting out and all.
So you think there's loads of teaching jobs for October time? This would be ideal, when do you think it'd be best to apply for these with a view to starting oct time?
Would i need to apply to the likes of GEOS, Nova etc earlier?
Any info would be great!
Thanks a lot! |

I didn't say "loads", just that there is a small rise in the number of advertisements in September or late August. Nobody can guarantee you will find something you like, or that likes you. I strongly suggest that you do some preliminary research by looking at examples of what schools offer on such sites as:
www.eltnews.com
www.gaijinpot.com
www.ohayosensei.com
www.jobsinjapan.com
and, of course, www.eslcafe.com

As I wrote in my first post, September to late August.

I wrote that eikaiwas hire practically anytime. Be aware, of course, that visa processing may take 2-4 months, so you should plan accordingly. |
