Hey guys, I have just been offered a job with HESS and I start July 28th for the training and August 15th actual teaching....

Firstly I think I need to buy a return flight but a single one cost �500 and a return is like �800 that's well expensive and to me is like chucking �300 down the toilet as obs I wont be using the return part of the ticket. Therefore is it possible to buy a single ticket and then maybe a ticket for the ferry from Taiwan to Hong Kong to show immigration that I do have plans to leave.....

Also, is anyone else starting HESS in the summer?

you do not need a round trip.....only an "onward" ticket....

I had a super cheap one-way to singapore that I just trashed after entering Taiwan my first time. Not sure about a ferry ticket....

OK, Thanks I will look in to that! Are you from the UK? where did you get your ticket? Also, If I'm entering on a 60 or 90 day visa does that mean that my outward ticket needs to be after 60 days?

I will get my resident visa in Taiwan and will need to enter on a 60 or 90 day visa, therefore, if my flight is booked fr 27th July does my outward travel need to be 60 days after this if arriving on a 60 day visa?

When I was workin there, they tell you to get a 60 day visitors visa, and then after you are here they process the resident visa. They actually don't start right away from what I believe. It took about 58 of the 60 days to complete the process which is about 3 1/2 weeks longer than any of my non-HESS friends.

Also, do not wait until after the 60 days...your onward ticket MUST be BEFORE the 60 day visa expires.

And, since you are working for, or will be, HESS, they should be able to answer all of these types of questions. It is one of the the good things about them. Low pay but they handle most of the legal/visa mess.

You can get a super cheap flight to Hong Kong with oasis hong kong airline (google it. i can't remember the address, sorry!) - mine was the grand total of �107! And then maybe a cheap return from Hong Kong to Taipei. If you get a flexible return you could even use it for a weekend trip at some point.

Tired that site and it's �379 in July. I did find a flight from London to HK for �250 but my travel agent told me it would cost �275 for a rtn from HK to Taipei.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a ferry from Taiwan to HKG?

Try Jetstar to Singapore. In the middle of July it's about 4500NT one way.

why don't you book a returnable ticket for the "outbound flight"? Sure there is a bit of added cost, but if you're worried that an itinerary wont suffice, then this is your best bet...

all i had was an itinerary and they didn't even speak to me at immigration when I arrived, nor when I applied at TECO
