Do you fratenize much with people out of your compound? Or do you just stay in there all the time?
I would like to get an impression of how wide the social sphere is. Generally speaking, is it more like being in a sort of submarine of the desert, or more of an exciting souq? |

As you can see, we don't "fratenize" much outside our own compounds. Some of us don't even "fratenize" inside them.
It is possible though. Where will you be living? |

These types of questions can't be answered until you arrive and see what kinds of people are in your social range. Often people only have colleagues to socialize with, so you can hope that you get along. There are other people, but it's hard to meet them when there are no formal, advertised active social functions and groups outside of embassies and compounds. If you are lucky, and you like that sort of thing, you may get invited to a few of those.
I suggest you yield from the urge to ask enigmatic questions on multiple threads. You should be more concerned with the details of your job offer, and once you are you will know if this country is for you or not. Believe me, as a near veteran here, I have seen many people assume they will fit in and they simply don't, and either they adjust by being self-sufficient or they can't adjust and they leave. |

| Cleo thinks all 'Gringos' should be isolationists. I am turning into a hermit myself and limit to 'fraternisation' to people from the same age-group, ethnicity and religious affiliation. |
