does anyone have any idea how much it costs to fill a medium sized truck and have the contents shipped from jakarta to surabaya? i mean even a ballpark figure would be appreciated. i've called a few places but they are giving me all these different rates and absurd prices for certain conditions, yadda, yadda, yadda. all i want is to put a bunch of old crap in a truck and move it.
anyone know the price of such a thing??....even an estimated price?? |

I had to move my household effects from Bandung to Yogya a few years back.
I got onto a local trucking company who was looking for 'backloading', i.e. he'd delivered a heap of stuff to Bandung, and didn't want to go home empty.
The rates were very good, and while it lacked the plastic, blankets and other wrapping, I did all of this myself anyway, plus gathering cartons for my books from the supermarket. |

You're in business... you could probably use a truck now and again anyway.... just go buy a new panther diesel pickup for 80j or so... problems solved |

well, i would need a truck once in awhile, except that i just bought a blue suzuki van and its not big enough for transporting what i need to send.
even if it was, i wouldn't do it. i don't have the time nor do i have the desire to drive that distance...i would simply much prefer to pay someone else to do it for me...preferably someone with a truck big enough for the job
.....so no, gonzo, problem not solved |

As someone said already.... try the backloading idea... apparently you can find these guys near the local markets - and you find them very early in the morning. I don't know if there will be many that came from East Java... but it's worth a try.
You could also phone the car rental guys who advertise in Pos Kota.... maybe they have some leads on a cargo truck with driver....
I once used a freight forwarding company to send my micro-light from Jakarta to Bali in a truck, and it was cheap (~600000rp), but it was only about the size of a motorcycle when packed up. I would tell you which company I used... but I can't remember the name, all I know is that their office was in the Ben Hill area... somewhat close to Sudirman.
You could also look into sending a crate or crates via rail or via pelni... both of which I heard offer delivery services as well. |

It cost us 1.8 for a truck and driver from Bogor to Surabaya last summer. Don't forget to get a letter from the police otherwise they think that all of your stuff is stolen. We got a truck that was going to go back to Surabaya empty after leaving a load of stuff in Bogor. It seemed to be the best way.
By the way what are you going to do in Surabaya? |
