Wuxi is the most gentrified city in china . It is very much like Hangzhou in that is very new and modern with lots of green space . Many foreigners there . But expensive . Check out Ronnie's Australian Bar which is kiddycorner to the Sheriton Hotel . I hate the place because the official lingo is Wuxi wa which to me sounds like the sound ducks make when maiting . I was there a week ago and was very sad . My old wei-club had been renovated and the old men I used to play with were kicked out . Wuxi people live to eat so there are very good restaurants there .

I lived in Wuxi for just over 3 years and I think it's a good city to live in. As BC mentioned it is on the expensive side though when you get into the city centre but on the outskirts, you can get things pretty cheap. You can get almost anything in Wuxi that you can get in Shanghai. There are many choices for restuarants both Chinese and western. There are many expats there and they even have their own website. Check it out.

I live and work in Wuxi. It's an OK place, everything you could want is here (depending on your wants of course), Good food, plenty of choice, all the big supermarkets and some posh shops. There are more Mercs. and BMW's than Paris so there is money here too.

It would be interesting to know where your job might be. If it's in education, there is good and bad here. Advice should be got from someone already working there. Ask for e-mail addresses and mail them.
