Perhaps this is not the most apt forum to post such a thread, but anyway...

Guys, I just applied for a job in Jubail, compensation is quite good (12,000 SAR nett per month, accomodation + return ticket are paid up), 3 months in the most scorching heat and then up stumps and retire to the pavilion.

They asked for experience in the oil industry, of which I have none; nevertheless, they granted me an interview in London. I am going to face it in less than a month's time, and I would like to boost my chances as much as I can. So... can anyone be so kind as to give me some links to online documents/articles containing oil industry related jargon, vocab, useful stuff to show off with during the interview?

Thanks a LOT to everyone who'll help

PS and sorry if the same question has already been posed somewhere else, just put me towards it in case

Language Solutions at a guess.

I doubt if they have much more idea than you do about the matter. Visit the Saudi Aramco site if you want to dig up some stuff. If you want to shine research all the SABIC companies.

...with all due respect, do your own search! It is as simple as typing the very words "oil industry vocabulary and saudi arabia" or any variety of combos....and I am sure you will find an assortment...of vocabulary and information on many various topics related to what you need.

a bit of advice: past experience has taught me, that when you try to 'pretend' to know something, it can turn around and BITE you in the arse!

But yes, at least having some understanding of some of the words may make a difference... Confused However, will the words help you grasp the real work on the ground...like what actually goes on in the oil field...?

Good luck!

Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about command of technical vocabulary or inside knowledge of how fractionating towers or pumps and valves work in oil extraction. If you know what the word "spanner", "hammer" mean, and can explain in easy terms how to change a light bulb, that will probably suffice. Every gig I've ever done in the Middle East has been for Oil companies, and basically what you're expected to teach is Murphy's, plus in-house material which is based on dialogues about where Ali and Mahmoud plan to spend their holidays ("Las Vegas, Ali? Gee, I don't know ......"). Relax. Enjoy.

Why not take it one step further as cmp has suggested and read up about the oil industry. Platt's is a magazine dedicated to the industry, and I know they have plenty of ME information about the oil industry and related economy. There are many other topics that are tied into the oil industry, and how much you want to read up on them may be related to your own interest. The next thing that should improve your overall image is your knowledge of Saudi Arabia, and Saudi students. You may want to call the Saudi embassy and ask some questions of their educational representative there. Perhaps you can meet up with a Saudi to ask some general questions about the country, the colleges, and so forth, all of this should feed into your research and take it off the internet a bit, which is great, but tends to make one lethargic for really good research.

Nashled, I'm in the CR at the moment and have worked for Exxon and Chevron and LUKOil...and may have some hard copies of stuff that would be useful. It's not online stuff.
Are you in Prague next weekend (16th. June)? I could try to dig up whatever I've got handy if you wish...not sure what I've got on me, but there's a vast disc somewhere entitled "Petroleum Terms."

If not, in your search, skip 'gas' and try 'petroleum.'

That would be awesome. Thanks a lot. Yes I'll be in Prague on the 16th, if you send me your number with a PM or an email I'll text you.
