Namaskkaram,
Great being here after a long time of chilling! I am sure I will be the most active on the forum after awhile. Rahma is real Rahma; I don't fancy nicknames. I love to be myself just all the time. Crooked ways of interlocuting are not of any interest to me neither those who speak with a plum in mouth! KIS is my motto, keep it simple, that it could reach your minds quickly. Transparency is my vehemence and hypocrisy is my foe!
This place is a happy hunting ground and I am certain I will learn loadssssssssss from you.

Welcome, verbose visitor to the planet Earth! Perhaps during your stay here you might like to try something called Temazepam. |

From the posts you have typed, you don't sound laconic! You could keep having your medication because I don't have insomnia!
Pleased to meet you, human being! |

"Fresher" in this context is not a first-year undergraduate student at university! Yet, I have just arrived at your planet; therefore, I am a 'fresher' that is soooo 'fresh'!
I am a lecturer at Rustaq College of Education in the Sultanate of Oman. You could visit us any time you like. Most if not all our students are highly motivated to learn new things there. Pleased to meet you, Gordon!
Fresh Rahma! |

Well, if you are here to learn from us. First off, this is a professional board for EFL teachers, not really a social board. People use screen names because employers read this board and it has been used to NOT hire people... and to fire people. I suggest you keep that in mind unless you don't mind looking foolish or unprofessional in front of your employer.
You are certainly welcome if you have information to give to teachers who may be applying to your college, but if you are just here to 'play' or socialize, I suggest you may want to find a more appropriate board.
And you didn't answer the question... are you an English teacher? Or are you a troll? From your posts so far... I'm leaning troll...

Well, I am not sure I would entirely agree that it is a 'professional' board but it is not a 'chat room' certainly!
The enthusiasm is a little refreshing and slightly annoying - maybe after a while, it will die down and he can begin the steady decline into backbiting and complaining that permeate these forums.
ah ! Here's my morning coffee, my mood will subsequently improve......

I am not here to socialize at all! Well, I answered the question whether I am a teacher or not. Make sure you read all the posts. Why are you so scared of my presence? I have my view about using my nickname or real name. Using my real name does not make me stupid because I am highly confident of myself. Yet, I respect that there are others who feel more secure not using their real names. 'Troll' or 'Teacher" or however you address people is your view and you can keep it for yourself especially if you think it is very professional. Starting in the way I did was abit amusing but it didn't mean that you are more professional than others.
We need to intellectualize and discuss the problems encountered objectively. Coooooooooooooooool down! I am not that threatening and I do respect people's opinions. Probably, if I made 'sweetiepie' or 'sweetheart" as nickname that would sound more professional to you!
Keep smiling! |

Dear Omanized,
Nice nickname! I didn't literally mean that I will every second pop up on people's windows! I have my own life and family! I don't have that much time as some may expect. I will just post some educational reflections when I have the time for it. I am not very keen on negotiating, gossiping or backbiting!
I prefer constructive criticisms that would enhance the level of Education in my beloved country, Oman. I believe it's significant that we get exposed to different points of views! This helps in presenting or suggesting solutions to such pressing issues. |

Actually it is you that seems not to have read carefully. The question asked was if you were an ENGLISH teacher. You merely said 'lecturer' which does not tell us much of anything.
Starting the way that you did was not really 'amusing.' It made you sound like one of my ex-female students. (assuming that Rahma is a girl's name) We have had a number of students who have come on here in the past and caused problems. So, if you want to be seen here as a professional, you need to sound a bit more like one.
And you are obviously a bit naive if you can not see why we need to use screen names here. Nor will you find many people here with cutseypie screen names... as I said, it isn't a social chatboard for students. If you are Omani, you have job security. If you are an expat, employers can fire you at will if they wish. Using a screen name and not giving away your identity is common sense for an expat teacher.
If you are a new young teacher and wish to join in our discussions of teaching problems, ahlan wa sahlan... and by the way, your English is very good. I would suggest that you take a few hours and read the many threads here of the past few years discussing what current and past teachers have seen as the problems and solutions to the educational situation in Oman.

Some months ago one of my colleagues at Sohar College posted on this forum. He signed off the post with his name. Doh! A few days later he was fired.
I don't know the details concerning the background to his dismissal, but I don't think that the proximity of dates of the two events can be viewed as purely coincidental.
Some years ago, in Doha, I posted one evening on the Qatar forum. The following day I visited my manager's office and discovered a print out of my posting on his desk. He advised me to post anonymously in future! |

Dear Geronimo,
I am just visiting this website for this aim: "know the problems to get them solved"! I am not here because I am targeting a person or an instituion. It is my oligation to try to make a change in our educational system when possible. I will copy my posts to my employer very soon. This means that as soon as I understand what's happening, Rahma will no longer need to be here. This is not my planet!
Great thanks for your concerns! |
