Hello, I am Eric.

I am currently teaching in Shandong, China, and will begin teaching at a new school in Lijiang this September.

To get started with the new school in Lijiang, they need me to make a visa run to Hong Kong for a new business visa (a work visa will be issued after 3 months of teaching).

When I was in America and preparing my visa for China, I was a long way from the nearest Embassy so I used a Visa Agency via snail-mail. I sent them my inivitation letter and other required information (I assume I will need the same for applying in Hong Kong).

QUESTION: Is it possible to use a Visa Agency via the mail rather than actually making the trip to Hong Kong? Has anyone done this? If it is possible, would it be a good/bad idea to send all my information and passport to Hong Kong this way?

Thank you,

Eric

P.S. Whats the deal with getting F Visas in Hong Kong? Some people I see say they are not valid in the Mainland, others say they are...

No agency is accredited with the authorities to do this kind of job; if you are so silly as to pay one of them to get you a visa from HK, you might come to regret it!
This would be the first case in the world where a visa for one country was obtained in the territory of another jurisdiction without the passport bearer actually showing up in that other place.

Well, people use agencies onces they are in Hong Kong, yes? What the difference between mailing them my necessary information and handing it to them myself? Or is it simply a matter of a passport needing to be stamped as I enter the country?

My guess is you just answered your question. They seem to place a huge emphasis on YOU leaving the country. Just one more way to boost tourism dollars of course.
