After gaining a PGCE from the UK, does anyone know if it is possible to do the QTS year at an international school abroad?

Cheers!

Unless things have changed QTS is only gained in State Schools, not even in independent schools in the UK.

Pretty sure that is right on the button.

Can only get QTS through completing the induction period in either a state school or in the special ed. sector.

To complete your NQT year you need to work in an approved school with appropriate support and mentors. You can do this in independent schools if they make the appropriate provision but most international schools will insist on you completing your NQT year before joining them - usually they want at least one year after this - a lot depends on what your specialist subject is. Remember that NQTs have a protected 90% timetable which makes them less attractive to commercial schools - meeting NQT requirements is time consuming at best. Realistically if you are in the right place at the right time then you might be lucky but I wouldn't want to plan a career on it.
