The phrase "runner" actually originated in South Korea, and is a shortened form of "midnight runner". Some teachers in Korea had to put up with intolerable conditions in ESL schools and were told by management that they were not allowed to quit, so a few decided to just pack their bags, wait for payday, and then leave. Not many actually did this at midnight

midnight run? it's more like the leisurely taxi ride to the airport in the middle of the afternoon.

Was this issue resolved to the satisfaction of the teacher, if so please let us know the details it may be of benefit to others in similar situations?
Good Luck

Thanks for the advice. Especially Aristotle. Sorry for the delayed response, I haven't quit yet mostly because I've had some money problems. (had to buy a new scooter, etc...)

I've still been struggling at Hess and it seems as each month goes by I am more determined to quit, but just haven't gotten the scrote to follow through!

There is still one more point that I would like clarification on, that is:
I still would like some first hand account of people who have actually quit Hess and succeeded. There is a 20,000 NT fine for breaking the contract. I am wondering if I pay this, will they let me transfer my ARC or will they refuse to transfer it, in which case I will just not pay the fine.

I've only got a few more months to go so I hope I won't need this advice but each day just sucks my soul away.

Again any help is warmly appreciated!

If they sack/fire you it may be possible to transfer your ARC and get your deposit back.
The fastest way to do this is to teach their students on the side as private tutoring. Two birds with one stone.
Good Luck Mo. and PM me if you get into trouble.
