Why not just investigate what the usual objects of 'be enjoying' (collocates coming after 'enjoying') are? It would probably beat untwisting one's knickers after a violent bout of semantics.

Schadenfreude; the very best kind of enjoyment. In fact, I've even been able to enjoy my own bad times with healthy doses of black humour.

Sometimes I think "Native speakers don't say it, it sounds silly, therefore don't use it" is a perfectly acceptable answer. Some students get caught up in wanting technical concrete reasons for why something is right/ wrong, but the reality is that languages often don't work that way.

no, I'm sorry, but that honor goes to Tokyo Mitsubish UFJ for the word:

trustship.

Even better, or worse...HEARTFUL.

Amn't I full of heartful trustship?

I very enjoy a good time thinking that I am.

Confused

I also think, `its not what a native speaker would say` is acceptable as a simple explanation - because some things just are not.

However, in 5, 10 or 20 years, most likely it will be acceptable in speech if not in written English. Language is constantly changing -

`all is flux; nothing endures but change ...` (Heraclitus) Smile
