My Friday class has asked me to help them with their English Drama contest. The problem is, they don't really know what story to use, and don't have too much time (the competition is in a couple weeks). There are 27 students in the class and they'd like to have everyone participating in the play. I've looked at a few web sites but ideally, I'd like to do a play of a story Chinese people are familiar with, i.e. movies. I love the scripts at www.geocities.com/pocolocoplayers/free.html but since I am to help this class win, I don't want them to do a play where nobody would understand nor appareciate it. Therefore, I hope some of you may be able to direct me to a good web site.

"shortended"?

Check out

www.filmsite.org

www.script-o-rama.com

Also...web sites "monolodues and dialogues for actors"

Good results can be expected oif the scenes involve:
*negotiation/dealing...whether for money/power/love

I used role plays in many of my classes and they went down well with the students. I used different role plays according to the language levels and other factors such as class size and interest levels. I have to use a proxy to get this site.
http://www.storiestogrowby.com/script.html . Or just type a search for whootie owl.

http://www.education-world.com/a_curr/reading/index.shtml#theater

Another good role play is called the little match girl by Hans Christian Anderson but the script is difficult to find so it is best to make a dialogue. However some of my students did this and it turned out very well.

This is a decent site too http://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anon-www.cgi/http://www.aaronshep.com/

All depends on how long the play will last and the ages of the students.

Thanks LionHeartUK. I forgot to mention that these are first-year English majors in a four-year program. Those sites look good, thanks again! You have given me some ideas. I was thinking of getting them to do Grease but that'd be a bit too difficult for them. Another idea was to perform a Chinese folklore in English. However, now thanks to your brilliant suggestion, I will get them to perform one of Hans Christian Anderson's stories.
