Hi Guys,

I have read heaps of information here and find myself now teaching in Hsinchu and about to start learning Mandarin at National Central Uni. But I need to leave the country to change my 60 day visitor visa into a student visitor visa.

Does anyone know how long it will take and the best place to go? I have my letter of offer form the UNI. I have found Thailand maybe the cheapest place to fly to, but everyone on this forum mentions HONG KONG. Is that because it is quicker and easier to get the VISA approved?

Would appreciate some help as need to go in the newxt 2-3 weeks.

Daniel

Hi bryenee,

Welcome to Hsinchu,

I prefer Singapore. The flight is longer but the city is very easy to get around in. Especially if you pick up maps and buy an EZLink card for the subway at the airport. English is spoken everywhere.

When I changed my visa (from visitor's to work) I took a stack of paperwork. Everything I thought they could possibly ask for and duplicates (you can download the forms from the net). It was all pretty easy and hassle free.
