Checking with the embassy is good advice. AS for student visas, don't think that would work for us, we'd be more interested in setting up a business. Here is Peru with 20K USD, you can get a resident visa. Any European countries have similar ways to get a visa?

In Romania you can (or could about a year ago) set up a company (costs about 300 Euro) and open a company bank account with about 60 Euro in it minimum and then make yourself the shareholder and apply for a residence permit (costing another few hundred Euro).
