More travel-starting in Latin America but there are many countries on the list.

I'd like a Masters(at least). And always improve teaching-of course.

To work in a few more countries.

To own a home in at least one country.

Marriage and kid(s)?-that is a big question mark.

I'd like to study more languages.

Goals? I don't know, and it's really freaking me out. I'm not the sort of person who likes not knowing where her life is headed.

Reality: pay back student loans

Other than that, who knows?!?!? In my last semester of my MA program, I started thinking about getting a PhD, but would that really help me be a better teacher? Or would it remove me entirely from the classroom and turn me into a researcher?

I will probably stay in Japan for two or three years. After that, I haven't a clue. Another country? Head back to California? ?!?!?!?!?

Oh, and of course finding a man--which could be the factor that ultimately sends me back home.

Goals, lessee.

Work in other cities in China. Xiamen, Kunming, and Haikou in Hainan are on the hot list.

Travel extensively around China, learn enough of the Mandarin to visit with and communicate with locals in the mountain villages.

Work in other countries. Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Turkey, and Morocco are on the other hot list.

Get an MA in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related

Teach Physics in a high school

As for marriage, kids, and retirement, those are question marks as well.

Yikes Exclamation You're scaring me. Your question is as frightening as the thread about retirement. 500 posts in 6 weeks? My wife would kill me.

BTW what happened with your avatar of Arwen?

Just kidding.

That was Galadriel and the site is shut down though I still had the image but figured it was only a matter of time before the link would be gone. Too bad-only one month till the movie comes out here. Have you heard about Lost in Translation there yet? A little slow moving at times but it made me very nostalgic for Japan-so much so that I even applied from a job there.

No I haven't seen the movie, not sure if it is here yet. I heard bad reviews about it however, kind of cliche they said. But that doesn't mean it is any good though.

Galadriel, of course. Rolling Eyes
I can't wait for Return of the King to come out, but will have to wait longer than you (they need a jealous emoticon).

You're into Lord of the Rings films?

How old are you and what are your qualifications?

Hmm...... Goals..... I used to have some fairly gradiose ambitions and goals in a former life, before circumstances led me to this nomadic life of TEFL teaching. I guess my current goals are:

a) earn enough money to live a reasonable standard of lifestyle in the country of my choosing

b) learn to improve my existing foreign language skills as much as possible

c) do some more travelling in places like Central/Southeast Asia/Africa

d) avoid the debt collectors hounding me back home........

As to things like a long term partner, home, kids, a 'real' career, well I've tried those already and failed spectacularly. So if you do attempt any of these things, good luck because you'll need it Sad

All of the above, plus I'd like to own my own school one day. Smile

Hey Gordon, we'll be sure to tell you what happens in LOTR 3 so you won't feel you are missing anything, k? Wink

We need qualifications now to like LoTR? Confused

I have a BA (Honours with Thesis) in Engish Lit. That ought to put me high enough on the list of "Snooty LoTR fans" to deserve watching the movie. Very Happy Age 26.

Hmm. Goals?

Finish my MA.

Land a stable, better paying job.

Return to Japan (even if only for a short time.)

Find a place to settle in for a while - and learn its language.

Mostly finish MA for now. That and set myself up with a reasonably well paying job for my next gig (for next fall.)
