I just got a summer job at Shijiazhuang I'll be payed around 6000 yuan for a one month's work. Do you think that's fair enough, or is it too low? I was also wondering if anyone could give me any information on the city? Local area? Students in general? Fresh teaching tips, since I am a new teacher... not much experience yet. Also it would be my first time going to China, so all suggestions are welcomed! Thank you in advance!

It's about average. How many hours will you be working a day? How many days a week? I presume they include accommodation (is it shared?). Do they include tours as part of the package? If I/we knew the answers to these questions, you would probably get a better response.

Shijiazhuang is...well....just a city. It's quite big so you should find plenty to see and do in a month. It can get very hot there in mid summer. Beijing is only 2 - 3 hours away. If you're into history, a weekend in Pingyao, Shanxi, is well worth it. It's about 3 hours away and there are plenty of things to occupy yourself with there.

As for entertainment, I only breezed through this place once so I can't really help you very much. There is a PanAm flight training facility at one of the airports which employ dozens of foreigners. You could perhaps link up with some of them.

Hi Alex. Don't know the city, so can't help you there.
6000 sounds alright depending on actual hours. I just missed out on a summer camp paying 9600 for 10 days work as the positions had already been filled.
I did winter camp last year for two weeks, very easy. I had a group of around 20 primary school kids. I had 2-4 classes a day and we were given all the materials and topics to cover over the course.
It was mostly just baby-sitting actually. We went on a few trips, had a bombfire party, let off fireworks, made hamburgers, put up tents in the park/treasure hunt and judged a talent show. Like I said very easy and stress-free. What's the accomodation like? age group? is it mon-fri? (free weekends or do you have to stay the whole time) are they taking care of your visa for you?
ANyho best of luck! I think summer camp will be a good first gig for you, above all, enjoy yourself
james

The accomodation and food is free, I will be living with a chinese family, so I could improve my Chinese a lot. The work is 4-5 hours a day mon-fri. What do they do at PanAm?Is it just training or you can get an actual job? Oh ans the visa would be sorted out for me, I'll get an invitation letter soon, because the school is licensed to employ foreigners.
