I'd like to do a MA TESOL at a university in Japan. I've been researching all afternoon and only came up with two schools that offer this program: Columbia University and another School out of England.
Can someone point me towards some MA programs in Japan?
Also, is it necessary to have a BA in English to apply for a MA in TESOL?
Thanks in advance. |

There is Columbia and Temple, both American schools.
No, you don't have to have a BA in English to get a masters in TESL or applied linguistics. Every school has different qualifications, but generally a related bachelors and teaching experience should suffice, a tefl certificate doesn't hurt either. |

Both of these programs specifically say you need a BA in English or applied Linguistics. I have a BA in Business Admin. I also don't have a B average.
Is there a way around this? I really want to do a Toesl MA in Japan, there's got to be a solution? |

Why don't you contact someone in the admissions office at each of these universities and ask the admissions officer your questions. Perhaps they can suggest things you can do, such as extra classes, esl cert., or teaching experience, which might supplement your application. |

100% you do not need to have a BA in Linguistics or English to enroll at Temple. Who told you that? Where did you read that? I'm just finishing the Masters and my BA is in History and the students have a variety of degrees. I doubt Columbia is any different. |

I have an MA in Apllied Linguistics from a good university.
My first degree was in Film!
You did need 3 years teaching experience and some great references to get on the course though. |
