| Has anyone seen any houses for sale for 10,000 us dollars or less? If so where? I would love to buy anywhere in the interior, but especially morelos or oaxaca. |

There are still places under $10,000.00 USD, but I doubt a foreign newcomer would be happy living in those surroundings.
You also have to be very careful of "ejido" property being sold. There have been some real financials losses in this area. Use a recommended realtor or you may be buying from someone who doesn't have ownership rights to the land. Some Canadians here lost a chunk of savings just recently. Ejido land is throughout Mexico.

An interesting point. On one hand, there seem to be a plethora of off-topic posts lately (real estate, booing Miss USA, etc.) that have little to do with teaching. On the other hand, the questions do have to do with living in Mexico, and certainly living in Mexico is tied closely to our teaching. |

You can still buy a vacent lot in Oaxaca for under 10,000 us. But keep in mind that the standard lot size is 10 X 20 meters.
My house cost about 260,000 pesos. But it's TINY! you might be able to buy a lot with an unfinished, or very old house for under 100,000 but well outside of the urban areas. Mexicans like to squish as tightly as they can into the center of town. In my city an empty lot (10X20)near the center of town was being sold for 500,000 pesos. About half way out of town you'd get the same size for 50,000 pesos and 30 minutes out of town you'd pay 15,000 pesos (but have no water, sewage, or electric lines). I think the down town prices are crazy! |

Amen to that. I, for one, enjoy discussing aspects of Mexican life and passing on my experiences. I am very concious of the work/life balance and the forum provides a valuable insight into the country and its idiosyncrasies for anyone thinking of coming to Mexico to teach.

And an interesting one indeed...as with other things Mexican, real estate markets vary from State to State and city to city. I live in a touristic seaport city but it feels like a small town in our little Fraccionamiento. Our tiny new Infonovit houses cost under $20,000.00 USD. (You can pay much more now, so most people are building second levels as families grow). The real estate market in most of Mexico is hot right now. Good one! Actually telecommuting is becoming a popular option for foreigners in Mexico. You can dodge cold winters that way and your clients are none the wiser. In fact in some cases their bosses aren't aware they are in Mexico because they are doing the exact same work as they would sitting in the USA or wherever, working from home. Broadband telephones with your home area code attached are the thing, in case you have to teleconference in with the real world now and again or speak live to a client. I know a teacher who is teaching US university students online from Mexico, so there you go. Foreign wages, Mexican living costs. |

Does anyone know about property trends in Mexico or where I can get some info. Basically Im trying to find out by what percentage, more or less, houses/flats increase per annum in price. I'm not sure if there are any official stats out there.
Im talking about the city, well Guadalajara to be exact. |

100,000 pesos for a house? A quality house? In a decent area? With amenities? Christ. For 8 times that price I can find something here but I still have to give up on size and desired location!
Is there really anywhere in this country where you can buy at that price? |

And so has the exchange rate... $10,000 USD isn't anywhere near 100,000 pesos anymore. More like 141,000 pesos. |

Even 141,000 is insanely cheap! |
