I'd just like to second all of Clark's comments. We certainly DO have rights here. If Aristotle has a genuine problem (doubtful), he can file a claim with the CLA (Council of Labor Affairs). They actually DO help teachers, as has been proven many, many times.
There are problems in Taiwan, but Aristotle's wide sweeping generalizations are very, very far from the truth. |

RAMAKENTESH:
did you fail out of a high school in mississippi or something? rather than attend spelling class did you decide to go copulate with the farm animals? seriously, who taught you the english language? your grammar and spelling is atrocious. if one of my child students spelled and organized his thoughts like you i would spend extra time after class tutoring him. maybe the reason your time in taiwan is so unenjoyable is because you are not qualified to be here. mastery of english is generally a prerequisite to teaching english - perhaps that essential step was lost on you. go home, attend junior high again and learn the difference between "your" and "you're." they are not the same thing. observe:
1. You're an idiot.
2. Your English is a joke.
see? one's a contraction of you + are and thus counts as both subject and predicate. the other is a possessive pronoun and will modify a noun. good luck. i'm sure with a little work and some good, old-fashioned elbow grease, you'll pass all of your remedial classes and be back screwing up the english language for others in no time. |

Please call the CLA and explain to them that you are a foreign teacher who would like to file a complaint.
You will be told that the labor laws do not apply to you because you are not a laborer and you should read your contract.
I too have heard about the CLA actually doing their job and assisting minority workers in Taipei and if you file a complaint there you may have a chance of some sort of compensation. Unfortunately Taipei is not Taiwan as the foreign occupational government of the ROC would like to believe.
Pick up the phone and see what happens!
Good luck,
A. |

Aristotle perhaps if you were actually in Taiwan and working here then you could do that for yourself and you would find that you are wrong. How do you explain the fact that the labor laws make specific mention of foreign workers in Taiwan?
There are numerous examples on public message boards such as this one (and no doubt plenty more that were never made public) of cases whereby the CLA has helped foreign teachers when those teachers were wronged.
So both in theory and in practice foreigners clearly have rights here.
For years you have been trying to argue that we don't have rights but it is clear to everyone else that we do. |

Hello,
MOD EDIT
I just wanted to say, for the sake of civility on forums, the best way to keep thread polluters away is simply to ignore them. don't add water to their mill. if you do, it must be because you enjoy the thrashing...
This thread has a lot of usefull information, and if anything, detractors (and the people who answered their claims) convinced me that my Taiwan objective was a good one.
Later folks,
Penny |
