If I get job, anybody know whether UAE will let me drive my 10 year old car in from Oman and re-register it? |

if you will be resident in Abu Dhabi - the answer will be no - they won't register anything more than 6 years old. However, in most of the other emirates (including Sharjah) they will register older vehicles. A caveat, I registered a car more than 10 years old in Sharjah but it was a transfer of ownership within the same emirate which may be treated differently. |

Are you sure about this? Sounds incredible to me. |

Nothing at all incredible about it. Plenty of countries put limits on the age of cars that are imported to stop other countries' junk being dumped on them. |

As far as I know, all the Gulf countries have an age limit for imported cars. This has always been true. Prior to the first Gulf War Kuwait allowed in cars over 10 years, but they changed that law as soon as cars were imported in sufficient numbers after it ended.

I did read about plans to get all older vehicles off the roads in the newspaper but I don't honestly think they have come into force yet. Or ever will (the most polluting vehicles on the roads seem to be municipal ones and all those water trucks from the 1960's or even 50's. I suggest you approach the UAE Consulate in Oman and ask them. Certainly within the UAE transfer of ownership of older cars goes on all the time. |
