I'm thinking about giving private tutoring in the Tarragona area.
But I'm a bit lost as what to charge for a private class and group classes. Does anybody have any suggestions?

I reckon, if you work on the basis of giving them 2 ninety minute classes a week, then 130-150 euros is reasonable. Im sure you could charge more depending on your students income and how keen they are, but I never overcharge as it keeps the student studying with you and recommending you to others. BTW, I dont know of you've taught privates before, so dont take this the wrong way, but if I gave you a tip with the Spaniards, is make sure they realise if they dont give you a specific amount of notice then thats a lesson lost... I didnt with one of mine and am constantly, frantically trying to rework my schedule to fit another class in, and consequently exhausted!

Good luck

Thanks for the advice. Do you mean 130-150 euros per month for 2 90 min classes per week? And is that for a private class or group class?

PLEASE don't charge less than 20-25 Euros an hour (or 30 Euros an hour for Business English), ESPECIALLY if you are certified. Undercharging students for your hard work doesn't make them any more appreciative or likely to stick with English- on the contrary, it makes them value the lessons (and your time) less, and makes earning a living difficult for your fellow English teachers.
As far as group classes, you could charge a minimum per hour fee plus a supplement for each additional student (ex. 20 Euros an hour plus 5 euros per additional student) so the price goes down for them as the group gets larger. Do make it clear (preferably in writing) that you should agree on the price, number of students and schedule in advance and that very last minute cancellations will still need to be paid for.

Get them to pay for 1 or 2 classes in advance as well. This is your only protection against late cancellations and no-shows. If you don't get them to pay in advance you may have serious problems collecting for a class that was cancelled at short notice or they just didn't show up at all.
